How To Write A Perfect SEO Optimized Blog Post In WordPress: 7 Easy Ways
Writing an article is easy, but this article focuses on how to write a perfect SEO optimized blog post in WordPress. Optimizing a post is very important in driving organic traffic from search engines like Google, Bing, and Yandex.
In my early days of blogging, I used to only focus on creating good content. But, within no time I have realized that it is essential to develop search engine friendly, i.e., SEO friendly content.
In other words, it’s straightforward, when you write a blog post you write it for humans to read. Whereas optimized content is nothing but writing for both humans and search engines at the same time with some targeted keywords and description.
That is nothing but guiding search engines to crawl your content with the help of a set of keywords and a proper description of the topic. This is called SEO friendly content or SEO optimized content. So, here are a few things to keep in mind when you want to optimize your content for search engines.

1. Keyword Research
Always remember, before writing your article. You should do your keyword research as it is a very vital part of organic traffic. Search engine bots identify your content based on your keywords and meta description. As I said, it is nothing but guiding the bots to recognize the core content of your article with the help of keywords and meta description only. So, do your research when targeting your keywords. There are a lot of tools available in the market, but my personal favourite is Google Keyword Planner and Longtail Pro.
2. Post Title, Post Meta Title
- There is a difference between post title and post meta title.
- Post title – Post title is nothing but the title what the visitors see on your blog.
- Post Meta Title – Post meta title is how search engines show your title in search results.
- For example, Have a look at our about us page. When you visit the page, The title of the page it shows About us. But, go to Google and have a look at the title it shows as Meet Technozam Founders, Vivekanand Arumanda & Devi Mounika. The first one is called the Post title, and the later is called post meta title.
- Always use your targetted keywords in your post title or meta title. This very important to drive organic traffic.
- Always make full use of 66 character length of your title.
3. Post Meta Description
Post meta description is nothing but the summary of your blog post or page which is 156 characters in length that appear in the search results.
Post meta descriptions help in driving a massive amount of traffic from search engines.
Always use your targetted keywords in your meta description. Meta descriptions are essential when it comes to optimizing a post.
Google says that every individual page should have a different meta description.
So, never forget to add meta descriptions to your pages. If you have any orphaned meta description pages on your blog add meta descriptions right away.
4.Image Alt Attributes
Images are a great way to communicate with your blog visitors. But, the saddest part is that search engines like Google and Bing cannot read images. So, when you add an image, you should always add alternate text or ALT Text for the image.
Always upload your images with its name itself. For example, for this post I need to upload an image then I should name it as How to Write a Perfect SEO Optimized Blog Post.jpg. Don’t ever upload images with names like image009876.jpg etc.; it will ruin your SEO.
When you upload two are more images, give them appropriate names. Don’t give the same name to the targetted keyword.
Always use your targetted keywords in ALT text and description.
5.Internal Linking And Anchor Text
Internal Linking is still a best practice. When you write a new blog post always try to link your old relevant blog posts to it. It helps in re-crawling of the post with the search engine bots. When your visitor come across a new link, he/she will try to open it and stay long on your site which indirectly helps in reducing the bounce rate. Assists in the smooth navigation of your blog.
Anchor text is nothing but, When you add a link to your page or blog post, use essential keywords or targeted keywords in it.
Permalink is nothing but your blog post URL. Care should be taken with these permalinks.
The first thing you want to do after installing WordPress is, change the permalink setting.
Setting—Permalink–change to post name
Always remember, we can only edit this permalink before publishing the blog post. If you want to change or modify it, then you should add a 310 redirect. So, be very careful before publishing.
Never use stop words. You can find the list of stop words on Google.
Keep it short. Yes, always keep your permalink short.

7. Heading Tags H1, H2 & H3
If you are using an SEO optimized theme, then by default you will have H1 as your post title tag, H2 & H3 tags for subheadings in your WordPress Theme.
Here in this post, I have used all H1, H2 & H3 tags for my title tag and sub-headings.
When you write a long post, it’s advantageous to use sub-headings for the post.
Always use keywords in your H1, H2 & H3 tags for better SEO.
